About Below are the three main goals which The Nomadic Notebook is built on: 1.Making science more accessible to everyone! “Nothing in science has any value to society if it is not communicated” -Anne Roe, 1952. Science aims to uncover the truth about the natural world but what good is it if the decision-making public is left out of the loop? Researchers can sometimes suggest actions that to the rest of us seem completely counterintuitive for conservation, eg. starting controlled fires in forests. It makes you wonder if someone who walks around all day measuring trees is really qualified to make suggestions opposing what policy-makers have historically implemented. I aim to paint a picture of the “scientific process” of studying wildlife and shift our focus of the future away from trepidation and doom and towards how we can take efficient conservation action. 2.Wildlife appreciation I aim to humbly highlight the inherent value of nature rather than focus on how it can serve to benefit us. Species conservation has always been a passion of mine- whether rare or as common as a crow- I believe its important for us all to be privy to the unique functions of species, the role they play in a community, and impacts they may have on greater ecosystems. 3.Travelling in nature I hope to share tips on how to travel in a way that allows you to best experience nature and local wildlife. Human interaction with nature has been proven to both increase happiness as well as interest in conservation. I’ve always believed travel is important for everyone to experience- but its understandable to worry about the impact of travel on the environment. Sustainable travel is the future! I aim to share my tips on how to take away incredible experiences from travel while leaving minimal impact.
